KEETCH WELCOMES ENQUIRY

12.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 14th Jun 2004

Hereford MP Paul Keetch, the Lib Dem Shadow Defence Secretary, commenting on the announcement that there is to be an independent inquiry into Gulf War Syndrome, said:

"This is great news. The British Legion are to be congratulated for taking the initiative.

"The government points to inconclusive research to justify not holding an inquiry. But it is precisely because the research has proved nothing that we need to continue to ask questions."

"This should be a lesson to the MoD, if they don't investigate complaints fully, there are others who will."
