KEETCH GETS WELSH WATER TO INVESTIGATE VILLAGE FLOODING

10.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sat 18th Sep 2004

Hereford's MP Paul Keetch met villagers in Whitchurch yesterday to discuss flooding problems in the middle of the village. Also attending was local Councillor, Ruth Lincoln and representatives from Welsh Water.

"The centre of the village is often affected by sewers flooding outside the pub and its time this was dealt with," said Mr Keetch.

"After meeting with local residents and their councillor, I am glad that Welsh Water will be taking this issue seriously.

"The sewers become overloaded with surface water running off fields and then flood in the village. Land drainage is apparently the responsibility of the local Authority so Welsh Water will be arranging to survey the sewers with the Council to see where the problem may lie.

"We will then be meeting with the local residents again to report back on what action might be taken."
